MOYAMO DANCE, led by founder and artistic director Anna Sapozhnikov, presents modern dance works at the numerous, varied venues (there’s a mouthful). The company consists of accomplished choreographers and dancers from Chicago and Champaign, Illinois, and Louisville, Kentucky. Because the company is not geographically bound, it remains portable and adaptable. The focus of the company is to produce contemporary dance works around the globe, promote dance as an art form and avenue of expression, stimulate creative ideas and processes, and create a living network of artists and resources that can be tapped into by anyone in order to explore any and all artistic experiences.
A respected choreographer, performer, and teacher, Sapozhnikov’s work has been described as “extremely impressive…dynamic and spontaneous” by the Kentucky Foundation for Women, who awarded her an “Arts Meets Activism” grant in 2003.
